As part of the Green Livelihoods Alliance Project being implemented by Friends of the Earth Ghana, we are training local community members in the Kwaebibirim District in the Eastern Region of Ghana. This training is to enhance their capacity to use mobile applications in the monitoring and documentation of environmental and human rights violations in the landscape. This activity is important because a visit to the Kade landscape and interactions with local community members reveals a number of environmental and human right abuses being faced by the communities. Specifically, the project seek to do the following:

•Build communities’ capacities to report infractions on their lands, environmental and social impacts of oil palm plantation activities using Real Time Monitoring

•Empower communities to understand the Free Prior Informed Consent (FPIC) processes in order to demand their rights and negotiated compensation from plantation development activities.
